Chelsea are prepared to make Thibaut Courtois the best-paid goalkeeper in the world, according to Belgian reporter Kristof Terreur.
The Belgium international is negotiating with the defending champions over a new deal with 18 months remaining on his current deal.
Courtois is in a strong positions give his role in Chelsea’s title successes in the 2014-15 and 2016-17 Premier League seasons.
The towering shot stopper is generally regarded as one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers alongside Manchester United No1 David De Gea.
Courtois, who spent three years on loan at Atletico Madrid, has been linked with a potential move to La Liga giants Real Madrid in recent seasons.
The Blues goalkeeper has hinted that he is intending to sign a new deal with the defending Premier League champions.
Belgian football expert Terreur has confirmed that Chelsea are in the midst of negotiations that could see Courtois become the world’s best-paid goalkeeper.
“Chelsea have made an offer to him. They are still thinking about it. They are still negotiating. Things are happening,” Terreur told the Transfer Talk podcast on Sky Sports.
“Chelsea have shown they really appreciate their goalkeeper and want to make him the best paid goalkeeper in the world.
“There is no offer from Real Madrid on the table. He is weighing up his options. I think he will stay but I will keep the door a little bit open. Chelsea are really pushing.”
Chelsea signed Courtois from Genk in 2011 before allowing Courtois to spend three seasons on loan at Atletico with Petr Cech the no1 at Chelsea.
The Blues goalkeeper was a key part of the Chelsea teams that won the Premier League titles under Jose Mourinho and then Antonio Conte.
